Denomination-Shaping
As a member of the delegation to General Conference, Carol is actively working across the global connection of United Methodists to discern possible paths for the United Methodist denomination as they face decisions around an identity to continue discrimination against LGBTQ persons or to become a more inclusive denomination. Carol is an active proponent of removing discriminatory language and embodying Jesus’ radical inclusive love.
Church Revitalization Model
Along with Rev. Chris Winkler and Rev. Matthew Johnson at Barrington United Methodist Church, Carol is working to design a multi-site church model for existing congregations, in which connection, collaboration, and shared mission can provide a means to revitalization without sacrificing autonomy, context, and unique histories. Carol is the lead pastor at West Dundee, but works in concert with Barrington United Methodist Church to do ministry in a new way, multiplying impact while reducing the demands on smaller, declining churches. The goal is to create a replicable model for ministry to help stymy the decline and isolation of small and mid-size churches.
